Depression – Do you sometimes feel like you are invisible? The inside is screaming and no one can hear it but you? The symptoms of depression vary for many however the struggle is often the same. Together we can face the results of this real and debilitating illness and developing healthy and empowering coping skills that create a quality of life that allows you to be visible, especially to yourself.

Someone once said ‘you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.’ As women, we are born to care for, nurture, and sustain life in others. Our identities as mothers, wives, lovers, partners and sisters can be overwhelming. Internally we are programmed to put others first. Eventually we are empty, tired and lonely. Guilt becomes a common theme and can easily spiral into depression, addiction and grief.

Domestic Violence – Have you heard over and over that “it’s the last time I will hurt you?” The cycle of violence is complex and tricky. You may feel like you deserve to be treated badly or spoken to harshly. You do not. I know this for sure. You probably feel lost on a long, long road that is familiar but you want to turn down a different road. Let me help you navigate a new direction. It’s kind of like a GPS system when you turn down a different road. Let’s “recalculate” the route together.

Empowerment brings freedom and freedom brings responsibility. Often your inside doesn’t match the outside and that can cause suffering and pain. A single speck of light can illuminate even the darkest corner of the soul. The roots are thriving; they just need some nourishment to grow and spread.

Addiction – Is there something that you can’t get enough of but whatever it is inhibits your ability to thrive? The face of addiction can be alcohol, drugs, gambling, shopping, and even love. We feel like we have it under control but before we know it we are spiraling out of control and our lives are unmanageable and we are being held hostage by our addiction. I can join you on the path of recovery and guide you towards allowing yourself to break the bonds of the addiction so you can live a life that is happy, joyous and free.

The root of most of our pain is fear; fear of the unknown, fear of being alone, and fear of living without our “friend” alcohol or drugs. You can face your fear and together we can learn how to feel the fear and move through it…beyond it. We all have the same destination: happiness, we simply need to find the right vehicle to make the trip.

Grief and Loss – The loss of a loved one no matter how it happens is devastating. It leaves a hole in ones heart that seems too big to ever fill. Whether it is death, a breakup or an empty nest, vacancy in the heart is painful. Working together in counseling doesn’t fill that hole but what it will do is enrich you with skills to make peace with your loss so you can move on and live a fulfilling life.

Together we can touch your sorrow and honor it for what it is. We can make peace with the wounds that lie beneath the happy face you feel forced to put on every day. You will discover that your choices determine your day and although your grief may always be a part of you; it will no longer rule your existence.  Wisdom can be illuminated by speaking with someone about your pain. With wisdom is understanding and with understanding comes serenity.
